What is a fluorine-lined (PTFE lined) valve?

A fluorine-lined valve is an industrial valve with its wetted surfaces (body interior, ball/disc, stem) fully lined with fluoropolymer materials such as PTFE (Teflon), PFA, FEP, or ETFE. This lining provides exceptional chemical resistance against highly corrosive media including hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and chlorine gas. The valve body is typically made of cast steel (WCB) with internal fluoropolymer lining to combine structural strength with chemical inertness.

What chemicals are PTFE lined valves suitable for?

PTFE lined valves are suitable for: hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulfuric acid (H2SO4), nitric acid (HNO3), hydrofluoric acid (HF), phosphoric acid, acetic acid, caustic soda (NaOH), chlorine gas (Cl2), bromine, hypochlorite solutions, organic solvents, and most aggressive chemicals with pH 1–14. PTFE is virtually chemically inert and has the widest chemical resistance among fluoropolymers.

What is the temperature limit of PTFE lined valves?

Standard PTFE lined valves are rated for -29°C to +180°C (-20°F to +356°F). PFA lined valves can operate up to +260°C (+500°F). ETFE lined valves are rated for -30°C to +150°C. For applications exceeding these temperatures, metal-seated valves or special alloy valves are recommended instead of fluoropolymer lined valves.

How to select the right fluorine polymer lining for my application?
